Growing A Dye Garden (Recording of Online Workshop)
Growing A Dye Garden (Recording of Online Workshop)
The magic of sowing your own plants to be harvested as dyes and pigments for your textile/fiber art practices is at your fingertips! Growing plants to use as pigments or dyes is as easy as sowing a few Marigold seeds on a sunny windowsill. There are really four key elements to consider in designing your dye garden, which I will share in this workshop. I have been practicing the art of natural dyeing and growing my own dye plants for nearly a decade. I have grown plants on tiny little windowsills, rooftop gardens, raised beds, front lawns, abandoned urban lots, and on the farm. I have cultivated gardens in Mexico, Southern and Northern California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and England. My experience and this workshop will demonstrate that a color-based garden truly is inherently place-based.
In this workshop we will cover everything from selecting the best plants for your desired use, color/dye outcomes, starting your own seeds, choosing the best plants for your location, as well as ways you can connect to your plants based on cultural or historical traditions.
All purchases include: A link to the recorded workshop and a PDF of worksheets to assist you in planning your own dye garden.
