Soay are believed to be the most primitive sheep currently in existence. They originate from an island off the British Isles called St. Kilda. They are very wild little sheep and retain many characteristics that have been lost by many domesticated breeds. For example, they have the ability to roo their wool in late Spring which means their fleece starts to shed and they do not require shearing. Another unique trait is that both rams and ewes have horns.
