A Shepherd's Share - May Box
A Shepherd's Share - May Box
The Merry Month of May
Our May box was created to allow the spinner to experience Spring as a shepherd. It consists of 3 oz of tri-color Jacob lamb roving and 3 oz of naturally dyed Cotswold roving, in shades of violet and lilac. We hand-dyed the wool in various colors including shades of purple, pink, and blue. Then hand-blended the colors giving the roving a watercolor effect.
As you spin this wool imagine the transition of the greys of winter to the blooming colors of spring. Think about spring lambs bouncing along lilac hedges and as you walk the pasture to check on your grazing flock, noticing the abundance of blooming violets.
A Shepherd’s Share
Welcome to A Shepherd’s Share, our artisan spinner’s box, where two shepherd’s have curated the finest heritage breed wools to invoke a unique spinning experience. A shepherd’s share consists of 6 oz of hand selected fiber that has been crafted into one of a kind roving for spinning, weaving, or felting. Each box is unique and “one of a kind”, which means we are not able to replicate the exact box in the future, so please don’t hesitate when selecting your share.
Each month the share will have a theme, which celebrates different breeds of sheep, colors of the season through natural dyes, and life of the shepherds who create the box. The wool selected is from either the shepherds flock, or is hand selected from other flocks which use sustainable practices ensuring minimal harm to this precious earth. The fiber is washed using eco-friendly, organic detergent, but washed in a way that leaves enough lanolin in the fleece. The wool is milled at the Get Bentz Farm mill, by the two shepherds, ensuring the roving meets their standards. Our natural dye process is slow and intentional. We take our time extracting our pigments, the majority of our dyes coming from plants grown ourselves or foraged, and sometimes using natural dye extracts. As you spin this fiber you will notice the characteristics of the sheep and breed, through the minimal washing technique used in preparation of the roving.
