Jacob/Gotland Blend Roving
Jacob/Gotland Blend Roving
This airy roving is a unique blend of Jacob and Gotland wool with a dash of mohair, all locally sourced. The mohair will add strength to your yarn making it suitable for socks!
The Jacob wool was grown by our very own little flock of fluffy sheep shown in these pictures. Jacob is a breed of heritage sheep listed as "threatened" on the Livestock Conservancy's Conservation Priority List. They produce a medium fleece that is light and open, with a staple length of four to six inches and a weight of three to six pounds.
Jacobs are small, horned, black and white sheep. The sheep are white with colored spots or patches. The colored portions of the fleece are usually black, but they can also be brownish or a lighter color called lilac. The Jacob is a multi-horned or “polycerate” breed. Most animals have two or four horns, though six horns also occur. Both sexes are horned, and the rams can have horns of impressive size and shape.
Sold by the ounce. Three ounces should be sufficient to knit a pair of socks, spun between a fingering/sport weight yarn.
